Zuka’s big milestone - MAT Test

There are some moments in this crazy dog-sport life where you just stop and grin because you know you’re watching the very beginning of something special. Today was one of those moments, Zuka completed his MAT Test!

For those who might not have dipped their toes into Mondioring yet, the MAT — Motivation, Aptitude and Temperament — Test is the sport’s entry assessment. Before any dog can compete officially, they must demonstrate solid nerves, sociability, confidence, and a willingness to work with their handler. It’s not about polished obedience — it’s about the dog’s character.

And for a young dog… that’s a big undertaking.

Who is Zuka?

Officially: MAYUMBRA Ares
Call Name: Zuka.
Unofficially: The golden child who thinks the world exists purely for his entertainment.

He is from our November ‘24 litter, a Maya and Odin baby through and through. Bold, curious and brimming with self-confidence from the moment he opened his eyes.

Zuka is very proudly owned, trained and loved by James. James is the kind of owner every breeder hopes for, dedicated, switched-on, and willing to put in the work to bring out the very best in his dog. We are so grateful that one of our babies is in his hands. Watching this partnership grow makes my breeder heart burst.

Why This Matters

As a breeder, seeing a puppy you planned, raised, and poured your heart into step into their working potential is indescribably rewarding. It’s proof that all those early decisions, genetics, health, early socialisation, are piecing together into a dog with a bright future.

But the biggest piece of that puzzle is the home they go to and Zuka hit the jackpot.

What’s Next?

More learning. More bonding. More sport.
James and Zuka are just getting started, and we cannot wait to cheer them on every step of the way.

Team MAYUMBRA.
Little Zuka leading the charge. 🖤
