Confirmation of Pregnancy

The wait between mating and that first ultrasound feels like it goes for years, not weeks. You start watching your bitch like an obsessed detective, was that a different kind of nap? Did she just turn her nose up at breakfast, dinner, treat time? Is she calmer, needier, sassier, hungrier? Or am I imagining all of this because I want it to be true?

Breeders will understand exactly what I mean.
You try so hard not to look for signs, and then you still look for signs.

By the time the ultrasound day finally arrived, I’d already convinced myself of ten different outcomes. Maya, of course, was completely unbothered, walked into the vet clinic like she owned the place.

She stood there without a care in the world, the probe touched her belly, and within seconds there they were, little bubbles on the screen. Pregnant.

I swear that moment never stops hitting you in the chest, that first visual confirmation always feels like a mix of relief, excitement, and “holy shit, we’re really doing this… again.”

From then on, everything shifts. Her diet gets adjusted. Her exercise changes. I start organising the whelping area, checking supplies, making lists, rewriting the lists, and preparing mentally for the next 12 weeks.

It’s the moment where “maybe” turns into “we’re on”, and honestly, that moment will never get old.
