Potato in a blanket - Babies First Baths
First baths are never about getting puppies show-ready, they’re about introducing water in a calm, positive way. Warm room. Warm hands. Calm voices. No pressure and no expectations. Mum is always close by, watching over them and giving that quiet “See? Nothing scary here” reassurance only she can give.
We take our time with it. Nothing is rushed. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s comfort.
We make it fun.
Treats are absolutely involved.
Cows ears with peanut butter because if you’re going to try something new, you should at least be snacking while doing it. Chewing keeps busy minds relaxed, and it turns something unfamiliar into something positive almost instantly.
Each puppy gets one-on-one time. Gentle handling. Little massages. Calm voices and steady hands. We let them take it at their own pace and read what each puppy needs in that moment. Some need a second to process. Others lean straight into the experience.
Once bath time is done, they’re wrapped in a soft warm towel and dried gently, followed by a very light blow-dry. Just enough warmth to keep them comfortable, nothing loud or overwhelming. It’s all part of teaching them that being handled, dried, and cared for is safe.
Yes, there were a few confused faces at the beginning, tiny “umm… excuse me?” moments, but they all worked it out very quickly. And honestly? They loved it. The attention. The touch. The snackos. They were absolute little champions.
These early experiences matter. They shape confident big dogs who take new things in stride, and it all starts here. Calm. Supported. Loved.
And usually covered in peanut butter.
