Eight weeks old - Saying see you soon
Eight weeks is always a milestone.
For many breeders this is the age puppies begin heading to their new homes, and while there is a lot of excitement surrounding that moment, it is always a little bittersweet too.
Eight weeks ago these puppies were tiny, blind and completely dependent on their mum. Their entire world consisted of warmth, milk and sleeping in a pile of siblings.
Now they are bold, curious little dogs who believe the world revolves entirely around them.
Over the past eight weeks they have learned so much. They have discovered grass, toys, people, noises, different surfaces and the beginnings of independence. They have wrestled endlessly with their siblings, tested their voices and discovered that humans are excellent sources of both cuddles and food.
And now the time comes to say goodbye.
Not goodbye forever of course, just goodbye to this chapter. My goal is to stay in contact with as many of my puppy owners as possible, wether that be by text message, social media or the occasional phone call, it is so very important to me that I get along with my new puppy families.
From here their real adventures begin.
New homes. New routines. New families who have been waiting for them. Anything we have done with them was a foundation. Now the real work begins.
For a breeder there is always a moment when the house suddenly feels a little quieter and you realise the little lives you helped start are now out in the world beginning their own stories.
